Russia relies on coal mining

Coal production in Russia is to be increased to 670 million tonnes per year over the next 15 years.

Moscow. Russia's economy is heavily dependent on the coal industry. On the day of the miner in Russia on 25 August, the Russian government stressed the importance of the coal sector and its development for the country. Despite environmental risks and declining European demand, coal mining is expected to increase to 670 million tons annually in the next 15 years. For example, on the northern peninsula of Taymyr, more than 25 million tonnes of coal are to be mined annually over the next five years.

Over the past ten years, mining has increased by 30 percent to 440 million tonnes, making Russia one of the world's largest coal producers. Over the same period, investment in the sector increased by 150 percent. The further expansion of the market segment may bring good entry opportunities for investors from the mining sector.
