Report - Germany in Fourth Place Worldwide for Innovative Capacity

Berlin (Reuters) - According to a research study, Germany is significantly more innovative than many other countries.

Germany continues to rank fourth in terms of innovative capacity, the industry association BDI, which commissioned the ranking, announced in Berlin on Monday. Switzerland is at the top, ahead of Singapore and Belgium.

Sweden, Denmark, Ireland and the USA follow just behind Germany. Of the 35 countries surveyed, China is only in 26th place.

BDI President Dieter Kempf said that Germany must be open to new technologies in order to remain competitive.

The country is treading somewhat on the spot. "The German government's plan to invest 3.5 percent of the gross domestic product in research and development in five years is correct."
