Is the Сoronavirus infecting the German economy?

Small pathogen, big danger: In addition to the health effects of a new pandemic, there are also economic consequences. The sharp rise in the number of infections has also left its first economic traces on the stock markets: As a result of the spread of the lung disease, share and oil prices fell.

Experts believe that the coronavirus could also reduce economic growth in China by around 1 percent - which would mean around one tenth of a percentage point less growth in the euro zone. Export-oriented companies in Germany would be particularly hard hit.

Local companies are likely to feel the impact: China has been the most important trading partner for the German economy since 2016. The German-Chinese trade volume is around 200 billion euros per year. Some 5,200 German companies are active in China, which have created around 1.1 million jobs locally.
